SACROILIAC JOINT DYSFUNCTION
The sacroiliac joint, which is commonly referred to as the SI joint, is a common cause of lower back pain. Pain in the sacroiliac joint can radiate into the hips, legs and groin. The SI joint is located at the base of the spine, where it connects the sacrum with the pelvis.
Common cause of sacroiliac joint dysfunction could be due to heavy lifting, playing certain sports, poor posture- such as sitting for a prolonged period of time. Pregnancy can also cause sacroiliac joint pain in women due to weight gain, causing ligaments in the SI joint to relax.
Chiropractic/ physical therapy can all be very effective in resolving sacroiliac joint dysfunction. As well as icing and keeping up with rehabilitation.
